Addition Mania
A downloadable project
Rules for Addition Mania
You will need...
- A standard deck of fifty-two cards.
- An index card for each player in the game.
- Maybe a phone calculator.
To Set-Up the Game…
- Shuffle the deck of cards and then distribute the cards evenly among all players. Any leftover cards that would cause an unequal amount can go in the discard pile. NO ONE should look at the cards after they are distributed, and all a player’s received cards should go in an upside-down pile for only that player to access.
- Every player needs to label their index card vertically from one to however many cards there are in each player’s pile. This is the number of rounds in the game. Can be done as follows:
ROUND # GUESS POINTS RECEIVED
1
.

To Play the Game…
Every player will take the first card off their pile and not show any of the other players. Using the card they have picked up, and all the cards that have been picked up in previous rounds, each player must make an educated guess at the sum of the cards all the players have lifted by writing their guess next to the corresponding round number on the index card. Values of cards are their numerical value. Additionally, aces have a value of one, and face cards (kings, queens, jacks) have a value of eleven. When a player has made their guess, they will place their thumbs up to signify to the other players they have made their guess. When all the guesses have been made, the actual sum of the cards will be calculated. Each player will then calculate the absolute difference between their guess and the actual sum. Points will be awarded as follows:
For a unique perfect guess- four points to perfect guesser.
For non-unique perfect guesses- three points to each perfect guesser.
Unique lowest absolute difference guess- two points to guesser.
Non-unique lowest absolute difference guesses- one point to each guesser.
After points are awarded for that round, all cards from that round go in the discard pile. This process is repeated for each round until no one has cards remaining. Whoever has the highest total points at the end of the game wins!
